Setting up your TP-Link Archer VR400 router is quick and straightforward with Yellowcom. Whether you’re installing business broadband in a new office or reconnecting after a move, this guide walks you through every step — from wiring the hardware to getting online.

We work with businesses across the UK and Ireland to deliver broadband that’s fast, resilient, and VoIP-ready. This setup guide is designed to get your network live in minutes, with clear instructions and expert advice.

What You’ll Need to Get Started

Before beginning your setup, check that you have all the components listed below. These will typically be provided with your Yellowcom broadband package or by the router manufacturer.

  • TP-Link Archer VR400 router
  • Power adapter
  • DSL cable (usually grey)
  • Microfilter (if you’re using a standard phone socket, not a pre-filtered master socket)
  • Ethernet cable for device connection
  • Broadband username and password (emailed by Yellowcom support)

If you haven’t received your credentials or aren’t sure which socket to use, contact our team before starting setup.

Step-by-Step Setup Instructions

1. Connect the hardware

Start by wiring your router to the broadband line.

  • Plug the microfilter into your wall telephone socket
  • Connect the grey DSL cable from the microfilter to the DSL port on the back of the TP-Link router
  • Connect the power adapter and switch the router on
  • Wait for the Power and DSL lights to stabilise — this may take a couple of minutes

For full broadband performance, always place the router in a central, open location away from thick walls or large electrical devices.

2. Log into the router dashboard

Once the router is powered up:

  • Connect your laptop or desktop to the router via Ethernet (this ensures the most stable setup)
  • Open your web browser and go to http://tplinkmodem.net or 192.168.1.1
  • You’ll be prompted to log in. Use the default credentials:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin
  • The system may ask you to update the admin password for security — choose something memorable but secure

3. Enter Yellowcom broadband settings

Once logged into the dashboard:

  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Navigate to Network > DSL Settings
  • From the ISP List, select Other
  • Enter the following details:
    • Connection Type: PPPoE
    • Username: (provided by Yellowcom)
    • Password: (provided by Yellowcom)
    • VPI/VCI: 0 / 38 (UK default setting)
  • Click Save, then restart the router from the system interface

This configures your router to communicate with the Yellowcom network using our broadband platform.

4. Test your internet connection

After rebooting, check the front panel of the router:

  • The Internet LED should be solid green, indicating a successful connection
  • Open a browser and visit any secure website (e.g. www.bbc.co.uk or www.yellowcom.co.uk) to confirm you’re online

If you encounter any errors, go back to the DSL Settings and double-check the login credentials and PPPoE configuration.

Troubleshooting: Common Issues and Fixes

No internet light on the router?
Ensure your DSL cable is fully seated and connected to the correct port. If using a microfilter, confirm it’s plugged into the master phone socket. Contact Yellowcom if your login details are missing or not working.

Can’t access the router setup page?
Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of WiFi, and ensure you’re typing the address correctly (http://tplinkmodem.net or 192.168.1.1). Clear your browser cache or try a different browser if the page won’t load.

Slow or unstable WiFi?
Position your router in an open, elevated space with minimal obstructions. For larger premises, Yellowcom also offers professional WiFi solutions with access points and network management.

Want to reset the router?
Press and hold the reset button on the back of the unit for 10 seconds. This restores the router to factory settings. You’ll need to repeat the setup steps afterward.
